Police are warning of an increase in road check exercises following a deadly weekend which claimed four lives in road traffic accidents.
The road death toll has now risen to 41 for the year, just one death less than for the same period in 2023.
Senior Superintendent, Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, David Powder is putting motorists on alert for more road exercises and is urging persons to follow road traffic laws.
Police Road Safety Coordinator, Sergeant Brent Batson says police have been targeting unsafe road use with over 3,500 speeding tickets and over 9,000 seatbelt tickets being issued for the year so far.
However, he adds, “Road users do not seem to be receiving the message of the dangers of engaging in risk taking behaviors on the roadways and sadly these preventable incidents continue to occur with immeasurable loss to families and loved ones.”
