Guyana President: Regional ferry to operate from Parika

Guyana President Dr Irfaan Ali has announced that the planned CARICOM ferry will operate from Parika.

The planned regional ferry service will operate the Trinidad, Guyana and Barbados routes.

According to the Guyana Chronicle, the ferry service is “intended to promote enhanced trade within the Caribbean Community [CARICOM] as it seeks to slash its food import expenditure by 25 per cent by 2025.”

Dr Ali made the revelations on Tuesday during a community engagement with residents in a farming community in Region Three called Bonasika Creek.

The article adds that the community is producing about 240,000 pounds of ginger annually, but farmers are unable to access larger markets for their produce.
