T&TEC says it is currently engaged in an exercise to change out and upgrade meters in various parts of Trinidad.

However, it says persons can still call to verify the authorised contractors who are required to access the premises to conduct this work.

Its statement comes after a number of persons took to social media and WhatsApp to express concern about persons possibly posing as T&TEC workers to gain access to properties.

T&TEC says the ongoing exercise will continue periodically, on Fridays and Saturdays.

It adds that all employees and representatives are required to display their Commission issued ID, or present it upon request.

To verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a T&TEC employee/contractor, persons can call the T&TEC Estate Police’s official hotline numbers.

T&TEC says it also engages in weekly disconnections for the non-payment of arrears, which may also utilize contractors’ services.
