US officials considering whether to prosecute Boeing

US officials are considering whether to prosecute aviation giant Boeing over two deadly crashes involving its 737 Max airplanes.

The crashes – in Indonesia in 2018 and Ethiopia in 2019 – killed 346 people.

According to BBC News today, the US Department of Justice said that Boeing breached the terms of an agreement made in 2021 that shielding the airline from criminal charges linked to the crashes.

It added that Boeing failed to “design, implement, and enforce a compliance and ethics program to prevent and detect violations of the US fraud laws throughout its operations.”

Boeing, according to BBC News, has denied that it violated the agreement.
