Eid greetings from PM and Opposition Leader

The observance of Eid-ul-Fitr should be seen as one of T&T’s expressions of national unity, according to the Prime Minister.

In his message for today’s observance, Dr Keith Rowley noted that believers of Islam have stood strong over centuries, inspired and strengthened by the reading of the Quran.

He added that he is praying for those in Gaza who are caught in struggle due to the war with Israel and reiterates government’s position in favour of an immediate ceasefire.

Also sending greetings, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said she was inspired by the community spirit she witnessed when joining Muslims for Iftar.

She noted that it reminded her of Allah’s reprieve after hardship and sacrifice.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar believes this is especially relevant given the state of crime in T&T, as well as in the devastation of Gaza.

Meanwhile, government Minister Haji Kazim Hosein said he is appreciative of the freedom that Trinbagonians have to pray freely.

He believes this can be done without fear of being discriminated against or attacked because religious beliefs.

The Minister added that Eid-ul Fitr is a testament to the unity and strength found within the global Muslim community.
