Emergency maintenance works are underway at the Beetham Wastewater Treatment Plant.

According to WASA, as a result of the works there may be higher than normal flows in the sewer collection system.

As such, there is the possibility of overflowing manholes in lower Port of Spain and Beetham, particularly during heavy rainfall.

The company says its teams are on standby to respond in such cases by pumping down the manholes and sanitizing the affected areas.

WASA notes that works at the Beetham plant are expected to be completed by 8pm on Friday.
