Powell: More grit and determination was needed v South Africa

More grit and determination – that’s what West Indies captain Rovman Powell believes was needed to beat South Africa last night.

In a game they had to win to reach the T20 World Cup semi-finals, West Indies put on just 135/8 in 20 overs batting first, with 58 dot balls.

But speaking after the three-wicket loss, Powell said the wicket was not easy to bat on and required more application.

However, he praised the progress of West Indies cricket over the past year, noting the team’s rise from 9th to 3rd in the T20I rankings.

Powell added that there are 24 months until the next T20 World Cup and work will continue to keep building the team.
