WASA says workers associated with the shutdown of the Caroni Water Treatment Plant have been completed.
As a result, it says operations at the facility were restarted ahead of time at 8am today, with the supply restored firstly on the South system.
It adds that the North system is currently being re–energised.
WASA says various teams worked assiduously to execute a total of 24 different jobs associated with critical electrical maintenance at the Caroni Plant, as well as key ancillary works along the Caroni North and South transmission pipeline network.
It commended T&TEC for the support provided especially at the Caroni Plant and El Socorro Booster Station.
As the process of re-energizing the Caroni transmission/distribution pipeline network continues, the Authority says this may result in a discoloured water supply.
It is currently carrying out flushing protocols throughout the network, which is expected to result in the system fully clearing over the next 24 hours.
Those receiving a discoloured supply, are advised to let their taps run until it clears.
Persons in most affected areas are expected to have their service restored over a 24 – 48 hour period, in accordance with established supply schedules.
However, WASA says some those at the extremities of the distribution system, particularly at the furthest areas in South Trinidad, may experience longer delays in having their service restored.
Amended water supply schedules to areas impacted by the planned shutdown, will be available on WASA website and social media pages.
