WI batting collapses in first SL Test; 74 runs away from follow-on

A batting collapse has left West Indies in a tough position in their first innings’ reply against Sri Lanka in the first of two Tests between the teams.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for 386 in their first innings with a top score of 147 from Dimuth Karunaratne who was dropped on 14 by Jermaine Blackwood off the bowling of Rahkeem Cornwall.

Another loss for West Indies during the Sri Lanka innings was that debutant Jeremy Solozano was taken to hospital after being hit on the head by a pull from Karunaratne – he was diagnosed with a concussion and replaced by Shai Hope.

In reply, West Indies closed day two on 113/6 – Kraigg Brathwaite made 41, Blackwood added 20 and Kyle Mayers is not out on 22 with Jason Holder on one.

The regional team is 74 runs away from saving the follow-on but still have the likes of Joshua Da Silva and Cornwall in a deep batting line-up.
