West Indies have fallen victim to a 133-run defeat to Australia in a rain-affected first ODI between the two at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
Chasing 257, West Indies’ batting was obliterated by the likes of Mitchell Starc who took 5 for 48 and Josh Hazlewood who took 3 for 11.
Only four batsmen got into double figures – Kieron Pollard top scored with 56, Hayden Walsh Jr hit 20, Alzarri Joseph made 17 and Shimron Hetmyer made 11 as they were bowled out for 123 in 26.2 overs.
Earlier, Australia made 252/9 in their rain-reduced 49 overs, on the back of 67 from debuting captain Alex Carey and 49 from Ashton Turner, while Walsh Jr took 5 for 39.
Australia now have a 1-0 lead in the three-match series but more importantly, 10 more points towards the ICC ODI Super League which is the qualifying tournament for the 2023 World Cup.
The top seven teams from the league automatically qualify for the World Cup.
