WC Roundup: Japan beat Germany, Spain score seven

    Japan stole the World Cup headlines today with a 2-1 victory over Germany while Spain put seven goals past Costa Rica.

    Japan came from 1-0 down to shock the Germans through goals by Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano in the 75th and 83rd minute.

    Spain meanwhile got goals from Dani Olmo, Marco Asensio, Gavi, Carlos Soler and Alvaro Morata and a brace from Ferran Torres.

    In doing so, Spain set a national record for the most goals in a World Cup match, while 18-year-old Gavi became the youngest scorer in the World Cup since 17-year-old Pele in 1958.

    Meanwhile, Belgium worked for a 1-0 win over Canada who had an early penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois.

    Belgium’s goal came by Michy Batshuayi in the 44th minute and Canada could not equalize despite 22 shots.

    Elsewhere Morocco and Croatia played to 0-0 draw.

    Tomorrow’s matches are Switzerland vs Cameroon at 6am, Uruguay vs South Korea at 9am, Portugal vs Ghana 12pm and Brazil vs Serbia at 3pm.
