Surprising and humbling – that’s how New Zealand captain Kane Williamson describes his rise to the top of the Test batting rankings.
The last two Test matches have seen a Williamson in top notch – 251 in a demolition job against West Indies and 129 in the opening Test win over Pakistan.
Those innings has seen him jump from number four to number one in the Test batting rankings with 890 rating points.
India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Steve Smith sit in second and third respectively.
Williamson, speaking to ICC, says for him, his job has been about the New Zealand team, but admits that personal accolade is a pleasant addition.
Also, on leapfrogging Kohli and Smith, he says both are dominating the game – Kohli is currently the best ODI batsman and Smith was most recently the top Test batsman.
