The St Lucia Stars franchise will not feature in the 2019 edition of the Caribbean Premier League.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, CPL Limited terminated the participation agreement between it and the Royal Sports Club, LLC, the entity that operates the St Lucia franchise.
The tournament’s organizers did not elaborate on the reasons behind the termination.
However, in a release it says it was “in the process of establishing and operating a new franchise to be based in St Lucia that will participate in the 2019 Caribbean Premier League.”
According to ESPN Cricinfo, the franchise had several outstanding payments, which was one of the reasons behind its axing.
Cricinfo also quotes Jay Pandya, chief executive and owner of Royal Sports Club LLC and Global Sports Ventures based out of Pennsylvania, as being disappointed with the decision:
“We completely disagree with the CPL press release and will be working to address any issues the CPL may have in an appropriate manner and forum”
CPL 2019 is scheduled to begin on September 4th.
The Stars’ 2019 roster included Darren Sammy, Andre Fletcher, Lasith Malinga and Fawad Ahmed.
