Simmons “hurt” but can’t beg players to choose WI

Ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia starting in October, West Indies Head Coach Phil Simmons has addressed the unavailability of several senior players.

ESPNcricinfo reports that there are question marks around the availability of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, while Evin Lewis and Oshane Thomas have not appeared for fitness tests and Sheldon Cottrell, Fabian Allen and Roston Chase are out with injuries.

Both Russell and Narine are playing in England’s The Hundred and have been named as players for January’s ILT20 along with Lewis.

The West Indies are coming off a 4-1 T20I series defeat to India and starting a three-game series against New Zealand at 2:30pm today.

Speaking ahead the first New Zealand fixture in Jamaica, Coach Simmons expressed hurt that players are not making themselves available for West Indies.

West Indies, with a squad which included senior players, were eliminated in the Super 12 stage after one win and four losses.
