Shakib Al Hasan believes Bangladesh should adopt a rotation policy to ensure their top cricketers remain fit and refreshed.
His call follows the country’s Word Cup campaign, which saw them struggling to cope with several injured players including captain Mashrafe Mortaza, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Shakib wants the players, coaching staff and the BCB to be on the same page should such a policy come into effect.
He believes this will also help unearth newer players good enough for the top level.
“I will give you an example from India. Their players had the least injuries in their history last year. One of the main reason was their rotation policy. It helped them build many players who got exposure. At the same time, their players were fresh when they came to the side. Everyone, including Virat Kohli, got rested for one of the formats.”
Shakib believes the players and team staff also need to do more.
He says players should come forward and tell the team management that they are not fit enough, while the coaching staff, including the physio and trainer, must gauge when a player is not fit to play a match or series.
