T&T’s 19-year-old fast bowler Jayden Seales has been named in the 13-man West Indies squad for the first Test against South Africa.
Seales is the only newcomer to the team and his addition follows an impressive run in the West Indies U-19 World Cup team and recent West Indies warm-ups.
Roger Harper, the Lead Selector says: “Jayden Seales is young, very enthusiastic and has a big heart. In the ‘Best v Best’ (warm-up) matches he bowled with pace, got movement and has displayed the ability to take wickets. We think he is capable of adding potency to the bowling attack.”
However, while the young fast bowler has been included, his more experienced counterpart, Shannon Gabriel, misses out due to injury.
Shai Hope and Kieran Powell have been recalled – Hope’s most recent Test was in July 2020 and Powell’s was in December 2018.
FULL SQUAD: Kraigg Brathwaite (Captain), Jermaine Blackwood (Vice Captain), Nkrumah Bonner, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Kieran Powell, Kemar Roach Jayden Seales
The first Test bowls off at 10am on Thursday while the second Test will be played from June 18th to 22nd as the teams contest the Sir Vivian Richards Trophy.
There are also World Test Championship points up for grabs.
The final of the WTC has already been decided with India to face New Zealand after they topped the league stage.
