An Andre Russell cameo has helped Colombo Kings beat Kandy Tuskers in a super over as the Lanka Premier League started with a bang.
Kandy batted first in the tournament’s opening game and made 219/3, including Kusal Perera’s fiery 87 and Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s healthy 53.
Russell did not bowl.
Dinesh Chandimal then made 80 as he pushed Colombo closer to their target of 220.
They lost regular wickets but Isuru Udana’s 34 from 12 balls and Russell’s 24 from 13 ensured that scores were level after 40 overs of cricket.
Russell opened the batting in the super over – he made eight runs as Colombo finished on 16/1.
Despite not losing a wicket in their six balls, Kandy could only manage 12 runs and handed two points to their opponents.
