T&T’s Nicholas Pooran is among nine players retained by Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2020 CPL tournament.
This year teams can retain as many players from their 2019 squads as they wish and could also transfer players and sign emerging players.
Guyana’s local and regional picks for 2020 are:
Nicholas Pooran (Trinidad & Tobago)
Shimron Hetmyer (Guyana)
Brandon King (Jamaica)
Keemo Paul (Guyana)
Sherfane Rutherford (Guyana)
Romario Shepherd (Guyana)
Chandrapaul Hemraj (Guyana)
Kevin Sinclair (Guyana) – signed as an emerging player
Odean Smith (Jamaica)
Anthony Bramble (Guyana)
Pooran had a fine campaign for the Amazon Warriors last year – he scored 192 runs in 9 innings at an average of 38.4 and a strike rate of 150.
Despite Pooran’s figures, the efforts of breakout performer Brandon King (he was the tournament’s top scorer with 496 runs) and their unbeaten run to the final, Guyana finished as runners-up to Barbados Tridents.
CPL 2020 is scheduled for August 19th to September 26th but organizers are watching the COVID-19 situation closely.
A decision on whether the tournament can proceed as planned, or at a different time, will be made as soon as possible.
