Captain Kieron Pollard led the West Indies with a brutal knock of 75 not out, but couldn’t prevent a defeat, as New Zealand won the rain-affected match by 5 wickets via the D/L method.
The game was reduced to 16 overs, and batting first the West Indies scored 180/7 as Pollard smashed 75 off 37 deliveries while Andre Fletcher scored 34 and Fabian Allen, 30.
Lockie Ferguson took 5/21 from his 4 overs.
New Zealand, due to the D/L method were given a target of 176 off 16 overs to win, and they surpassed that with four balls to spare.
James Neesham scored 48 and Devon Conway added 41, as Oshane Thomas took 2/23 from 3 overs.
The 2nd T20i will be played tomorrow (Nov 28th) at 9pm T&T time.
