Match rescheduled after 2 KKR players contract COVID-19

Today’s IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challenges Bangalore has been rescheduled after the KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy and seam bowler Sandeep Warrier tested positive for Covid-19.

This is the first instance of Covid-19 cases within an IPL team bubble since the 2021 season started.

The latest tests from the rest of the KKR contingent were clear.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Chakravarthy is believed to have been exposed when he recently left the bubble through the official green channel for a scan on an injured shoulder.

The Chennai Super Kings camp has also been hit by COVID-19, with its chief executive Kasi Viswanathan, bowling coach L Balaji, and a bus cleaner testing positive.

The trio reportedly took a fresh test on today to rule out the possibility of a false positive, and if they test positive again, they will isolate at a designated facility outside the team bubble.

The others in the group, as well as the CSK players, have cleared their tests.
