Manchester United have announced the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season.

According to a statement on its website, United say the appointment is subject to work visa requirements.

Michael Carrick will continue to be in charge of the first team until the work visa is finalised.

It goes on to note that, following his stint, it has been agreed that Rangnick will continue in a consultancy role for a further two years.

Rangnick, a former German footballer, has managed several other teams since the 1980s including VfB Stuttgart, Schalke and RB Leipzig.
