T&T and West Indies batsman, Evin Lewis, starred as the regional team beat South Africa by eight wickets in their opening T20I.

In their first of 15 games leading up to the T20 World Cup later this year, West Indies restricted the visitors to 160/6 in 20 overs with Fabian Allen and Dwayne Bravo each grabbing two wickets.

Jason Holder and Andre Russell were also among the wickets.

Then came Lewis’ time to shine – he slammed 71 runs in just 35 balls to help West Indies to their target with five overs to spare.

Chris Gayle contributed 32 not out, Andre Fletcher added 30 and Russell made an unbeaten 23, ending the match with a six over deep midwicket.

Following the match, Pollard credited his bowlers for pulling the game back in the middle overs after South Africa got off to a solid start.

Player of the Match, Evin Lewis, meanwhile said he was happy with the result as it is a “pretty good” start to the five-match series.

The second T20I bowls off at 2pm tomorrow.
