Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson will be sidelined for ‘the next few weeks’ due to a calf injury.
The Brazil international picked up the injury during Friday’s 4-1 win over Norwich City at Anfield.
Manager Jurgen Klopp expects him to be out for a period of weeks, meaning he will not be available for their UEFA Super Cup clash with Chelsea this week.
The Reds’ boss says, “I don’t want to make now [an] exact prognosis on when he will be back but it will not be Wednesday for sure, so now then we have to see. It takes a while, it takes a couple weeks for sure, and we have to see.”
ADRIAN MOVES TO NO. 1
Adrian steps up to be first-choice goalkeeper in Alisson’s absence and Klopp has also confirmed that goalie Andy Lonergan will be signed on a short term contract.
The 35 year old UK resident was part of Liverpool’s squad during pre-season and has continued training at Melwood.
He’s likely to be on the bench for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup tie in Istanbul.
