Coach of T&T’s National women’s footballers, Kenwyne Jones, is relishing the chance to play the Dominican Republic in two friendlies in preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next year.
The teams meet for the first match today at 5pm T&T time in the Dominican Republic with both parties looking ahead to their qualifiers starting February 2022.
Speaking to the media, Head Coach Jones says today’s opponents provide the ideal test ahead of their qualification campaign.
“For the Dominican Republic, I think they are the perfect opposition for us at this point because our first game in the group in the qualifiers is Nicaragua and we see a lot of similarities within the two teams and we’re hoping that it helps us to find solutions and prepare well for when we get to that game.”
Today’s game will be streamed live on the TTFA’s Facebook page.
T&T Women are in Group F for next year’s World Cup Qualifiers alongside Guyana, Nicaragua, Dominica and Turks and Caicos Islands.
The top team in each of the eight groups will move on to the next round of qualification from which the top four teams will qualify directly for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The next best two teams will move to a 10-team playoff to determine the final three spots in the World Cup.
