Royal Challengers Bangalore, propelled by AB de Villiers’ 48 and a 5-wicket haul for Harshal Patel, have edged Mumbai Indians in a thrilling IPL opener.
RCB’s chase of 160 went down to the final ball with a single taken to secure the win.
Batting first, Mumbai made 159/9 with Chris Lynn scoring 49 and Patel grabbing 5/27.
In reply, de Villiers led the charge before he was run out in the final over.
However, Patel negotiated the last ball well, flicking it to take a single and pick up two points.
Speaking after the game, Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma admitted that his team was a few runs short and noted that there is some work to do moving forward.
