T&T’s women’s football team has made it to the final round of qualification for the 2023 FIFA World Cup.

Last evening, T&T took on Guyana at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago and secured a 2-2 draw.

Guyana, needing to win the game, took the lead in the 44th minute as Sydney Cummings poked in a scrappy free-kick.

T&T levelled the score just after the start of the second half through an Asha James penalty.

Guyana took the lead again in the 81st minute as Cummings completed a brace but the drama was far from over.

Lauyrn Hutchinson, subbed on for James in the dying stages of the game, came up clutch to net the equalizer just before full time.

The draw saw T&T top their group with 10 points in four games – three wins and the draw.

The women will next take part in the final round of World Cup Qualification from July 4th to 18th in Monterrey.

The top two teams from the two groups will qualify for the World Cup, while the third-placed teams will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.

Additionally, the winners will qualify for the Olympics and the 2024 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, while the second and third-placed teams will advance to the CONCACAF Olympic play-off.
