Chris Gayle says he has no respect for West Indies legend Sir Curtly Ambrose following comments on Gayle’s place in the T20 World Cup squad.
According to reports, the former fast bowler said that the big-hitting Jamaican is not an automatic choice and that he had no significant scores in the recent home series.
Speaking on The Island Tea Morning Show on Winn FM 98.9, Gayle said there has been some negativity in the press from “past players.”
He explained that he is disappointed as, ahead of the World Cup, the team should be getting support.
He then singled out Ambrose – he described him as a fun person who he looked up to when he first entered the West Indies team.
However, Gayle said, “I’m speaking from the heart. I don’t know – since he retired – what he have against Chris Gayle. Because those negative things he’s been saying within the press, I don’t know if he’s looking for attention.”
The left-handed batter then added, “You can let him know that Chris Gayle – Universe Boss – have no respect for Curtly Ambrose whatsoever again. I am finished with Curtly Ambrose.”
Gayle said that the team has already been selected, is going into a World Cup and needs the support of past players.
He urged Sir Ambrose to “stop being negative.”
West Indies play their first T20 World Cup group game on October 23rd against England.
