National Security Minister Stuart Young is standing by the recent decision to return a group of Venezuelans to their homeland on Sunday.
There has been criticism over claims that the group of 16 persons, including children, was sent back on a pirogue.
Mr Young today insisted that the identities of those on the vessel could not be verified, and that the law had been followed.
Mr Young could not say if those on the boat had returned safely.
He also warned that Venezuelans who are registered here do not have the right to bring in relatives.
Mr Young added that illegal immigration is also linked to human trafficking, which the Government is trying to address.
The Minister insisted that the tough stance on illegal immigration is in keeping with calls to protect T&T’s borders, especially given the ongoing pandemic.
