The Works Ministry says there have been several incidents of theft and vandalism to river embankments across the country which is undermining its efforts to mitigate flooding.

The Ministry confirms that it is currently working with the Police Service to investigate such occurrences and says it will look into all reports as a matter of urgency.

In fact, it states that one such incident has already been referred to the TTPS for criminal investigation and prosecution.

It adds that any act of theft or vandalism will not be treated lightly and is urging citizens who are aware of such incidents to report them directly to the Ministry using 623-MEND (6363).

The Ministry says it will not turn a ‘blind eye’ to a few persons who undermine the investment made by Government, which also pose a threat to lives and property.
