Woman kidnaps toddler, takes marked police vehicle

A one-year-old girl has been reunited with her parents after being kidnapped and taken on a high-speed drive in a police vehicle.

According to the TTPS, around 6:43pm yesterday (January 23rd) the toddler and her parents were at their Arima home, when a young woman known to them paid a visit.

The parents reportedly stepped away for a moment to attend to a family matter, only to return and discover the baby missing.

The parents enquired from persons around the village and were allegedly told that the child was taken by the visiting woman who was seen walking in a northerly direction along Tumpuna Road.

Later, around 10:45pm, officers on mobile patrol saw a police vehicle speeding east along the Eastern Main Road in Tunapuna.

Further checks revealed that an unauthorised woman was driving the marked vehicle.

The vehicle was intercepted along the Eastern Main Road in the vicinity of the Eddie Hart Savannah in Tacarigua.

The marked police vehicle was found to have been unlawfully obtained from the Cunupia Police Station District.

The toddler was found inside and after being reunited with her parents, was escorted to the hospital for medical attention.

The 24-year-old woman was arrested and taken to the Cunupia Police Station for processing pending charges.
