WHO issues Medical Product Alert

The Health Ministry is advising of a Medical Product Alert issued by the World Health Organization for certain paediatric medicines in the regions of Africa, South East Asia and Central Asia.

The WHO says these contaminated medicines contain unacceptable amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol.

They are considered unsafe, especially for children, and may result in serious injury or death.

The identified products are manufactured in India and Indonesia and are not registered for use in T&T.

However the Ministry says out of an abundance of caution, persons who are in possession of any these products, are advised not to use them and to return them to point of sale.
