West Shore Medical Hospital is investigating an incident in which a cardiac technologist posted to social media about the Prime Minister’s visit over the weekend.
The Prime Minister was taken to the facility on Friday afternoon after experiencing some discomfort, with an angioplasty carried out on Saturday.
He was then discharged on Sunday morning.
In a statement, the Hospital said the technician in question is not a medical doctor, but an employee of Cardiovascular Associates Limited and a part-time independent contractor for Advanced Cardiovascular Institute (ACI).
It says an investigation into the matter was immediately initiated and will be conducted in accordance with full due process.
Following this, it says action deemed necessary and appropriate will be taken.
Until this process is concluded, it says the technician will not be asked to provide any services at West Shore or for ACI.
In its statement West Shore says “Our three companies are governed by a zero-tolerance policy regarding breaches of patient confidentiality. All staff members and independent contractors are required to sign agreements to keep patient information in the strictest confidence.”
