A waterspout was spotted off the coast of Port of Spain today and the moment was captured in a social media video.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 3pm and the spout dissipated shortly after.

According to the National Ocean Service, a waterspout is “a whirling column of air and water mist.”

It can be tornadoes that form over water or move from land to water or fair weather waterspouts which normally form along the base of a line of developing clouds.

The Service says, typically, fair weather spouts dissipate rapidly when they make landfall and rarely move far inland.
