Vendor gets $60,000 bail for slashing prison officer’s face

After wounding a prison officer at a bar in Chaguanas, a 25 year old vendor appeared in court and was granted $60,000 bail.

According to reports, Ashmeed Ali slashed Darren Mohan’s face with a blade while at Tripolis Bar in Petersfield, last Wednesday.

When Ali stood before Senior Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan yesterday, he was not called upon to plead.

His attorney however told the court there was a video circulating and the issue of self-defence will be raised in the matter.

In addition to the bail, Ali was instructed to have no contact with Mohan and stay 50 feet away from him.

The case was adjourned to August 5th.
