UWI Vice Chancellor to receive Martin Luther King award

A Martin Luther King Award will be conferred to The UWI Vice Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.

This, the university says, was announced by President and Founder of the US National Action Network, Reverend Al Sharpton.

Professor Beckles and US infectious diseases expert Dr Anthony Fauci will receive the awards at a breakfast event on Martin Luther King Day, January 18th, 2021.

UWI says the Vice Chancellor is being recognised for “his global advocacy, academic scholarship and intellectual leadership in support of social justice, institutional equity, and economic development for marginalised and oppressed ethnicities and nations.”

He will be among the recipient of the “Peace and Freedom Award.”
