UWI readies tactical support for hurricane hit Bahamas

UWI is readying tactical support for the Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles says the UWI Disaster Risk Reduction Centre will work closely with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency to advise on and support the needs of the country as necessary.

UWI says engineering experts are available to participate in the Rapid Needs Assessment Team, while a team of pyscho-social professionals is also on standby.

UWI research conducted in Climate Studies, Environmental and Coastal Zone Management, Marine Ecology, and Disaster Vulnerability will also form the basis of advice and recommendations to the governments and people of the region.
