US donates jeeps, disaster management equipment

The US Embassy has officially handed over two Jeep Wranglers to the National Security Ministry, along with a number of other disaster management equipment.

The vehicles are specially outfitted with off-road capabilities, and are intended to boost the ODPM’s capacity to conduct field operations during emergency and disaster situations.

The other equipment included 96 hand crank radios, 18 Samsung tablets with accessories, and 60 First Aid Kits.

The ODPM will reportedly oversee the distribution of the tablets to the Local Government Ministry’s Disaster Management Units.

It says the devices will enhance the response by these Units to those affected by disasters, by bolstering communication and coordination at the national level.

Delivering remarks at the handover ceremony, were National Security Minister Stuart Young and US Ambassador Joseph Mondello, stated that the donation of the equipment is demonstrative of the existing longstanding bilateral security cooperation and friendship between Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America.
