UNC Leader calls appointment of first female CARICOM Secretary General a “watershed moment”

    UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar

The appointment of the first woman as CARICOM Secretary General is a watershed moment according to the Opposition Leader.

Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar, T&T’s first female Prime Minister, is today congratulating Dr. Carla Natalie Barnett on her new role.

She says Dr. Barnett has previously served as a Deputy Secretary-General of CARICOM, vice president of the Belize Senate, Financial Secretary of Belize, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Belize and Vice-President (Operations) of the Caribbean Development Bank.

With all her experience, Mrs Persad-Bissessar believes Dr. Barnett’s appointment will guarantee the growth of CARICOM.
