The UK government says the India-made AstraZeneca COVID vaccine, dubbed Covishield, is an approved shot.

According to a BBC News article, there have been protests in India surrounding the UK’s refusal to recognise Covishield but that the UK has since “amended its foreign travel guidance.”

This is India’s primary vaccine with over 721 million doses administered so far.

However, BBC News reports that “it is not clear whether people from India can travel to the UK without having to self-isolate for 10 days.”

Last week, the UK announced new rules which take effect on October 4th mandating that travellers from a number of countries arriving in England do not have to self-isolate if they are fully vaccinated but India was not included in that list.

Indians called the rule “highly discriminatory”, “racist” and “asinine”, among other things.
