Two police officers assigned in each division to deal with animal abuse cases

Animal abuse is rampant in T&T and the police service needs to intervene.

That’s the view expressed by the group ‘Animals Are Human Too T&T’ as it met with Police Commissioner Gary Griffith today.

In response, Mr Griffith assigned two officers in each of the nine policing divisions to assist all animal welfare organizations in investigating and enforcing the law where incidents of animal abuse or cruelty are discovered.

The law currently allows for a fine of four hundred dollars or to imprisonment for two months in addition to compensating the owner of the animal with a sum of no more than $500.

Mr Griffith also reiterated that laws relating to fireworks will be enforced to ensure the safety of citizens and animals.
