Police say no reports were made to the Child Protection Unit (CPU) about seven-year-old McKenzie Hope Rechia.
The child was killed and, according to reports, her mother later confessed to strangling her.
In a Trinidad Express article, a neighbour said she contacted the Unit after the woman allegedly talked about killing herself and child.
In a media release, the T&T Police Service says all reports reaching the Unit are investigated with the utmost urgency.
It goes on to say that checks were made by the Head of the CPU and there are no reports made to the unit about McKenzie.
