TTPS: No “on the spot” license suspension for using mobile device while driving

Police will not confiscate your drivers’ permit on the spot for using a mobile device while driving as a social media post claims.

The TTPS is today debunking what it deems false news.

The message informs persons that they will lose their license for three months if they are caught breaking this law.

However, the police service says no such law has been passed and motorists holding or using a hand-held mobile device are liable on summary conviction to a fine of $1,500 or imprisonment for three months.

The TTPS is urging the public to refrain for posting or sharing misleading information.

It says persons can check the TTPS social media accounts and the TTPS app for accurate information.
