The Police Service says there were 96 recorded traffic deaths in 2020.
This figure is historically low – the last time the road death figure was below 100 was in 1957.
And while it welcomes the decrease, the TTPS is appealing to motorists to obey roadway speed limits, and avoid the payment of fines and accrual of demerit points.
It says on December 31st 2020, a major enforcement and high visibility policing initiative took place targeting dangerous and reckless drivers.
That exercise resulted in 269 speeding tickets for errant drivers.
An instruction has since been issued for all Highway Patrol Units to elevate road policing activities across the nation’s highways through Speed Enforcement, DUI and Stop and Search exercises.
