T&TEC investigates early morning fire at Pt Lisas Substation

An early morning fire at T&TEC’s Substation in Pt Lisas is being investigated, while operations are underway to restore supply to affected customers.

T&TEC says around 7:30am, a fire broke out on one of the Commission’s two transformers at its Savonetta, Pt Lisas Substation, which supplies electricity to some industrial customers on the Pt Lisas estate, as well as residential customers in Phoenix Park, Cedar Hill and environs.

It says the fire affected the transformer and ancillary equipment, but was quickly extinguished by the T&T Fire Service.

The Commission says the substation was not occupied at the time of the incident.

It assures however that efforts are being made to restore electrical supply to residential customers from another substation before noon.

Its engineers are currently on site to determine the source of the fire, and to carry out repairs.
