T&T student tops regional tourism competition

A student from Trinidad and Tobago has won the first prize in the Children’s Environmental Poster Competition hosted by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association Foundation.

12-year-old Suvan Subance won the competition which was held under the theme “Solutions for Ocean Pollution.”

His piece entitled “Generation Blue” was submitted by the Tourism Ministry on behalf of Destination Trinidad and Tobago.

It is a collage depicting a large leatherback turtle surrounded by two different environments: one with trash and oil, and the other with clear blue, pristine waters.

The youngster explained that “Preventing ocean pollution makes sure that all ocean life, endangered or not, are alive for generations to enjoy.”

Subance was a student of San Fernando T.M.L. Primary School when he entered the competition, and now attends Naparima Boys’ College.

He collected his prize at a brief ceremony on October 31st.
