T&T Chamber calls for mandatory mask wearing in public

The T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce believes the wearing of a mask in public should be made mandatory by law.

In a release issued today, it notes the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, and believes that many guidelines are not being followed.

It says if this policy on wearing a mask in public spaces can be made law by an Order, with a penalty of non compliance, the Chamber supports its immediate implementation.

This it adds will follow the example of several countries which have had some success in containing the spread, such as Vietnam, France and Japan.

It says where possible, businesses should also keep a detailed log of persons entering and leaving their buildings, inclusive of names, addresses and contact information, should there be a need for contact tracing.

It is also urging consumers to the safety and sanitation protocols required by businesses.
