Top Cop urges persons not to share false COVID-19, law enforcement information

Citizens are being urged to ignore inaccurate social media posts about COVID-19 and law enforcement issues.

This call comes from Police Commissioner Gary Griffith after three instances of false information being spread.

The three instances he has highlighted are:

    • A video of immigrants running to shore in South Trinidad – the video, he says, was from Puerto Rico
    • A claim that the Prime Minister was going to implement a State of Emergency which proved to be false
    • Audio posted within the last 24 hours claiming there was a National Security meeting and urging persons to panic buy – the Commissioner says there was no such meeting

Mr Griffith is asking persons not to forward these messages and only accept information on the pandemic from official sources such as the Health Ministry and TTPS.
