Top Cop expects UN projects to help TTPS with forensics goals

UK High Commissioner Harriet Cross, UN Rep Jason Cross and Police Commissioner Gary Griffith

Several projects to be introduced by the United Nations in T&T can help the TTPS towards a forensic facility exclusively for the service, according to Police Commissioner.

Mr Gary Griffith today met with UK High Commissioner to T&T Harriet Cross and Senior Policy Advisor at the UN’s Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, Jason Francis.

The projects coming from the UN would focus on forensic and ballistic training which Mr Griffith says is in line with his strategies.

His plan for the TTPS is to have its own forensics facility which would be able to perform DNA tests and use technology to assist in solving crimes.

Officers are already being trained at the Police Academy in the area of ballistics through a programme that started in June 2020.

They are due to graduate shortly.
