Police Commissioner Gary Griffith says he never recommended or suggested that persons use insecticide or insect repellent as a weapon to protect themselves.
His statement comes after media headlines and stories which he says are “misleading in the extreme”.
The Top Cop says his comment during yesterday’s media conference was meant to point out that aerosols, including insect repellent, have been used by women feeling threatened and desperate.
He insists that at no time did he recommend its use, since such a suggestion would be tantamount to the Commissioner inviting persons to do serious damage to others.
He warns that repellents can blind persons and occasion serious bodily harm.
