Tobago East MP Ayanna Webster-Roy has confirmed that she and several family members have tested positive for COVID-19.
She adds that this comes despite her being fully vaccinated.
In a lengthy Facebook post, Ms Webster-Roy detailed her initial doubts over taking the vaccine and how she looked to her faith and religion for answers.
Eventually, she says she and her husband sought vaccination using the Sinopharm vaccine, with their second dose administered on June 24th, 2021.
She says her daughters are also vaccinated and received their second dose of Pfizer on September 9th 2021.
On September 14th, Ms Webster-Roy says she tested positive for COVID-19, as did evert member of her household, except for her second child.
She says: “When I received the results, I became fearful for my nine-year-old son, who is the only non-vaccinated member of our family. However, I again turned to the promises of God for comfort.”
She says today marks the fourth day of their twenty-day mandatory quarantine period, adding that they are nearly back to normal health: “Apart from a mild fever during the initial phase, the MP says her son is symptom-free. My daughter and I both have some mild congestion still, but that is it! I am eternally grateful to God for His mercy and to all the Health Professionals who have interacted with me and my family since we were tested.”
She adds that the purpose of detailing her situation is to persuade those who are undecided to become vaccinated, saying while a vaccine cannot prevent persons from contracting the virus, she has learned through experience that it does give a fighting chance.
